Ada Safari lake

Ada Safari is a natural lake on the peninsula Ada Ciganlija, between the river Sava and the Čukarica sleeve, in Belgrade, 5 km from the city center. The lake is shaped like the letter S, measuring approximately 6 hectares and average depth of about 2 m. It is primarily intended for sport fishing, but is also open to other visitors. It is surrounded by a thick hundred year old trees.


Ada Safari is surrounded by dense forest. Around the biggest part of the lake there is a path for walking, which can be used throughout the year. There is also a mini zoo, with rabbits, goats, pheasants, ducks, swans, peacocks, guinea fowls, pigeons. In the immediate vicinity is located children's theater course "Robinson's Island," which is especially active during the summer months.


In addition to domestic ducks and geese, the lake is permanently or occasionally a habitat for different species of wild birds, the most important being a wild mallard be regularly seen and gray heron, little cormorant and the kingfisher. On trees and in the bushes around the lake their home are hooded crow, the green woodpecker, large woodpecker, pigeon, great tit, blue tit, nuthatch, little nightingale, Sardinian warbler, magpie, jay, oriole, finches and other birds.


The lake is stocked with prize and rare fish of strictly controlled quality. It is divided by wire mesh into two parts, with one part of the area of ​​about 3.2 hectares has organized banks and 30 numbered phishing city. The lake is full of fish, there are plenty of capital copies. Water is the most abundant carp, bullhead, and there are plenty, but can be found and grass carp, tench and crucian carp. Fishing is possible with a permit for one or more days with mandatory reservation. Fishing on this lake takes place according to strict rules in order to preserve fish stocks. Each fish is returned to the water, while the samples of up to 5 kilograms may be purchased. This is the first lake in Serbia, where was introduced a fishing rule "catch and release".


Bor lake

Bor lake is an artificial lake in eastern Serbia, at an altitude of 438 m, less than 20 km from the city of Bor, about 250 km south east from Belgrade. It is on the road from Bor to Žagubica. Hotels and country houses are built around lake Bor, since it is a tourist attraction.



The lake is a result of the construction of a dam of the rivers Valja Dzoni, Marec and part of Zlot which took place in 1959 for the operation of the mining and smelting company RTB Bor. It has a surface area of around 30 hectares. The lowest depth of the water is 48 m. It is surrounded by forests. On its shores there is one hotel and one camping. It is popular in the summer, when the water temperature reaches 25 °C and it has two beaches. 


There are also winter activities in the area, such as skiing in the close-by facilities of the Crni Vrh mountain. Other attractions in the area are the Brestovačka Banja spa, the Stol mountain and the Gornjak monastery.



Zaovine lake

Zaovine lake is an artificial lake in central-west Serbia, on the Tara mountain. It was created on the Beli Rzav river as a reservoir for the Bajina Bašta II reversible hydro power plant.



Zaovine lake is located on the southern slopes of the Tara mountain, in the direction of the Zvijezda mountain, which marks the border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It spreads out between the villages of Zaovine to the south-west and Mitrovac, major tourist resort on Tara, to the north-east.




The lake covers an area of 15 square kilometres and has five branches. When the Drina river has a high water level or during the rainy seasons, water from the Drina is pumped into the Zaovine lake through an 8 kilometres pipeline. During converse conditions, water runs back from the Zaovine lake into the Drina, producing electricity by turning the turbines inside the pipeline. There are also five mini-lakes in the area (Spajića, Malo Zaovinsko, etc.) from which the water is also pumped into Zaovine lake. The road connecting Zaovine and Mitrovac bounds the northern side of the lake. The shores of the lake are seeing increasing numbers of visitors, fishermen and campers as summer houses are being built.


The entire lake lies in the Tara National Park, one of five in Serbia. The lake is surrounded by vast woods as forestation of Tara mountain is 75%. Zaovine is the area where Josif Pančić, a leading Serbian botanist, discovered the endemic Serbian spruce in 1875 on the nearby Kik hill. The hill was destroyed in the early 1980s and material was used for building the dam that created Zaovine lake. There are over 600 plant species in the area surrounding the lake, of which 15 are protected by law, including the Serbian spurce and edelweiss. Wildlife include chamois and 14 species of fish living in the lake, including nase, rainbow trout, European chub and Danube Roach.

Zavoj lake

Zavoj lake is an artificial lake in eastern Serbia, on the Visočica river. It was created in 1963 after a major landslide which dammed the river and the natural dam was later replaced with hydroelectric dam "Zavoj".



Lake Zavoj is located in eastern Serbia, in the northern part of the Visok region, close to the Serbian-Bulgarian border. Lake is in the valley of the Visočica river which is both its major tributary and outflow, between the mountains of Stara Planina on the north and Vidlič on the south. Lake is located 16km north of the town of Pirot, close to the Visočica mouth into the Temštica river and is not well connected with the rest of the Serbia. Settlements in the vicinity of the lake, which is among the least populated in the entire Serbia, include Novi Zavoj, Velika Lukanja and Pakleštica.


Zavoj lake is a favorite resort of Pirot and Niš citizens. The water of the lake is rich in white fish.

Zlatar lake

Zlatar lake is an artificial lake located among the mountains of Zlatibor, 15km from Nova Varoš. The lake was created in the 1960s after the construction of a dam on Uvac river, and covers an area of 7.25 square kilometers and reaches maximum depth of 75 meters. The lake is surrounded by mountains and gold mine Muretnica.



The region has continental-Mediterranean climate and is an attractive destination for holidays and recreation. The lake is suitable for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The lake rests 880 meters above sea level.


The dam built on the lake is the largest stone dam in Europe. Lake is popular destination, many travelers who travel to Montenegro through Zlatibor mountain, stop and take a break on the lake. It is also very visited by cyclists, hunters and fishermen. Near the lake is natural habitat of Griffon vulture.

Perućac lake

Perućac lake is an artificial lake in the municipality of Srebrenica, Republic of Serbian, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the area of municipality of Bajina Bašta, Serbia. The lake was created by damming the river Drina, for the purposes of hydroelectric power plant Bajina Bašta. Lake is fed with water from the river Drina. Its area is about 12.4 square kilometers, 340 million cubic meters of water volume and maximum depth is 60 meters. The lake is long about 54 kilometers, minimum width is 150 meters and maximum is 1000 meters. Perućac lake is located at 290 meters above sea level.



Middle of the lake is the border between the Republic of Serbian, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of Serbia. The lake is located in a natural bend in the canyon of the Drina River from Bajina Bašta and Višegrad, and wraps Tara mountain of Tara National Park.


This artificial lake was created at the time of Yugoslavia after construction of dams for hydroelectric purposes. The lake is named after the settlement of Perućac, municipalities Bajina Bašta, Zlatibor county, Republic of Serbia.

Near the lake there is a medieval necropolis of stelae "Mramorje", which is under protection of Republic of Serbia, as a cultural monument of exceptional importance.



The lake is perfect for fishing and swimming. Perućac lake is the habitat of the juvenile barbel, chub, carp, huchen, catfish and linjka. Every year the World Cup is held in fishing of huchen. Winners catches instances of up to 5 kg,

For several years during the month of July, there is held "Drina Regatta", from Perućac to Rogačice (25 km). The number of participants is rising from year to year, in 2010 it reached 10 thousand participants.


White lake

White lake is one of four largest fluvial lakes in Serbia. It is located in Banat, southwest of Ečka, south of Zrenjanin. The lake lies between the river Tisza and Begej, from which was partitioned mound. By embankment it is separeted from the Special Nature Reserve Carska Bara.



The surface area is 5.4 square kilometers, and the average depth is 1.33 meters. Due to high summer temperatures there is intensive evaporation. Vertical and horizontal movements of water are poorly expressed but there is no mixing of water which leads to strong thermal stratification. White lake is rich in fish.Šandor Šomođi was first to use it as fishpond in 1762.
