Zvornik lake

Zvornik lake is artificial lake located on the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. It was created after construction of a hydroelectric power station in 1954.



Zvornik lake has an area of about 8.1 square kilometers, volume 90,000,000 cubic meters of water, and maximum depth is 39 meters. The average depth of the lake is from 5 to 8 meters. The lake is long 25 kilometers, minimum width is 200m, maximum width about 3km. Zvornik lake is located at 140 meters above sea level.


In the coastal area of the lake there are a lot of weekend houses and restuarants. The lake is ideal for holidays, sports and recreational activities on the water and fishing. Zvornik lake is suitable for rafting, boating and swimming.



Zvornik lake along with the Drina river is a habitat for trout, grayling, chub, barbell, nose carp, catfish and pike. The lake is the habitat of the wild ducks.

Bovan lake

Bovan lake is lake located on "Sokobanjska Moravica" in Bovna, between Sokobanja and Aleksinac. The lake is an artificial reservoir created by building a dam in 1978, in the system of regulation of Morava river and hydro power plant "Đerdap", with the task to keep the cause of mountain rivers and at the same time to acculumate large amounts of water.



The lake is 20 kilometers away from Aleksinac and 12 kilomters from Sokobanja, and is located on the regional road Aleksinac-Sokobanja-Knjaževac. The lake is 8km long, the largest width is 500m and a depth of 50m. Bovan lake supply Aleksinac with water.




On the lake there are suitable places for swimming, as well as improvised places for camping. During the summer, on the beaches of lake, thousands of bathers, anglers and campers gathers. Nearby forests are nothing less paradise for hunters, there are various species of fox, birds, wolves and wild cats.

Vlasina lake

Vlasina lake is artificial lake in Southeast Serbia with an area of 15 square kilometers and a depth of 35m. The lake is located in municipality of Surdulica. The lake is located at 1204m above sea level. On the shores of lake are located three villages: Vlasina Okruglica, Vlasina Rid and Vlasina Stojkovićeva. It was created in 1947 - 1951 when the pit bog Vlasinsko blato was closed off by a dam and submerged by the waters of incoming rivers, chiefly the Vlasina.



The plateau is surrounded by mountains of Čemernik, Vardenik and Gramada. The dam is located in the northwestern part of the lake. It is an embankment dam, built of a concrete core with an earth-filled cover. The lake is most easily accessible from the southwestern side, by a 19 kilometers long section of M1.13 road from Surdulica, which itself lies 10 kilometers east of the Niš-Skopje highway on the E75 European route.



There are two pernament islands on the lake, along it's eastern coast : Dugi del and Stratorija. Along with those islands, one of the lakes most famous features are the floating islands, occurring when at high water level loose chunks of peat 0.5 to 2 meters thick break of the shore. Driven by the wind, they float from one shore of the lake to another, carrying the flora and fauna, and serving as shelter and a food source for fish. For that reason. they are an attractive target for fishermen. The largest such island has an area of 8 hectares, and is known as "Moby-Dick" by the local population. It is overgrown with dense vegetation, including birch trees. However, most of the time it is anchored along the shore.



The lake's flora and fauna are rich, and include several endemic species. It features over 850 species of flora and over 180 species of vertebrates, including rare species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The lake's surroundings are a mixture of meadows and high-altitude forests, especially birch, beech, pane and juniper. The lake is home to numerious species of fish. These include brown and Ohrid trout, perch, minnow, barbel, grass carp, common carp, crucian carp, tench, roach and others. 

By decision of government of Serbia in 2006, the Vlasina region is protected as a nature preserve of special interest as category I.




Current tourist capacity includes around 300 beds in hotels "Vlasina" and "Narcis", offering a modest range of services. Along with regular tourists, the often host sporting teams from Serbia and abroad, as the lake is popular destination for summer training. 

An ambitious project for development of tourism is planned for the Vlasina area by country's development plan and the ministry of tourism, and it's included in the " 21 projects for the 21st century" plan. The planned facilities include a new tourist center Novi Rid, with 1000 beds and shopping center, tourist center Krstinci with 350 beds, center "Džukelice" for summer sports, a marina for sailboats, a number of ski lifts and facilities for Nordic skiing.

Gazivode

Gazivode lake is an artificial lake created in 1977 by damming the river Ibar in it's upstream. It is located in the Tutin municipality, in southwest Serbia and Zubin Potok, and in northern Kosovo i Metohija. Above the lake is mountain Mokra Gora where are famous monasteries Crna Reka and Rogozna. The lake is 24 kilometers in length, the height of the dam is 107 meters, 460 meters wide and 480 meters long.



The main purpose of this lake is the irrigation of the Kosovo plain, but has a small hydro power plant, which is located in the same place. Water from Gazivode is taken by channels to Gračanica lake and is used to supply with water city of Priština. The water from the hydro system is also applied for the necessary cooling in TE Obilić.



Although there is no restaurants and hotels, a large number of people visit this lake. Throughout the year there is a large number of fishermen because the lake is extremely rich in fish.

Đerdap lake

Đerdap lake is the artificial lake on Danube, in eastern Serbia, near border with Romania. It was made in 1972. when Yugoslavia and Romania also made hydroelectric power plant Đerdap I.
The lake lies in the Đerdap gorge and there is a National park Đerdap on the shore of lake.



The lake is over 100 kilometers long and it's widest spot is 8 kilometers wide. The maximum depth reaches 100 meters. The lake surface is 253 square kilometers, of which 163 square kilometers on Serbian and 90 square kilometers on Romanian side. It is the fourth lake in Balkans and largest in Serbia. Đerdap gorge is the largest and longest gorge in Europe, consisting of alternating four valleys and four gorges: Golubac gorge, Ljupkovska ravine, gorge "Gospođin vir", Donjomilanovačka ravine, gorge Kazan, Oršavska basin, Sipska gorge, Vlach - Pontic plain.



Đerdap lake can be easily reached from Belgrade, Pančevo, Požarevac, Negotin, Zaječar, as well as from other cities in eastern and central Serbia. Beside lake is a road Golubac - Kladovo. Railroad Belgrade - Bor most approaching the lake near Majdanpek. There is a border crossing to Romania on the Đerdap hydroelectric dam.


Đerdap lake has an exceptional natural wealth and amazingly areas, as well as many cultural and historic monuments. The most interesting part of Đerdap lake is Đerdap gorge, whose landscape is changing at a short distance. There is a medieval fortress Golubački town, in Golubac gorge, which marks the beginning of the Đerdap National park. Several remains of Roman forts and villages also attracts the attention of tourists.
