Zlatar lake is an artificial lake located among the mountains of Zlatibor, 15km from Nova Varoš. The lake was created in the 1960s after the construction of a dam on Uvac river, and covers an area of 7.25 square kilometers and reaches maximum depth of 75 meters. The lake is surrounded by mountains and gold mine Muretnica.
The region has continental-Mediterranean climate and is an attractive destination for holidays and recreation. The lake is suitable for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The lake rests 880 meters above sea level.
The dam built on the lake is the largest stone dam in Europe. Lake is popular destination, many travelers who travel to Montenegro through Zlatibor mountain, stop and take a break on the lake. It is also very visited by cyclists, hunters and fishermen. Near the lake is natural habitat of Griffon vulture.
