Palić lake

Palić lake is a lake situated 8 kilometers from Subotica, near the town of Palić, in Serbia. It is an important tourist center of Vojvodina. The lake is of aeolian origin, and is the largets lake in Serbia occured naturally. It is part of the protected area of Nature Park Palić.



The lake covers an area of 4.6 square kilometers. The average depth is 1.9m, the maximum is 3.5m and touristic sector is about 3.8 square kilometers long, with 3 separete beaches.During the tourist season, the water temperature is between 18 and 25 Celsius degrees.The most frequent wind direction is northwest-southeast.


According to legend, the lake is the rest of Pannonian Sea. The lake was formed in ancient times as the groundwater, though lake water mainly comes from rainfall that filled the valley.

During sixties in the 20th century, there was built a sports center with courts for football, volleyball, basketball and handball. On the east coast a resort community was built, where many companies built resorts for their workers. A modern hotel Palić was built in 2000.




Palić lake is attractive primarily to swimmers, but it's center offers other types of entertainment, sports activities, as well as a tour of nature reserves, bird watching, walking tours and photo-safari. The coast is very attractive because of it's sand dunes, trails for bicyclists and polygons for driving. The lake is rich in fish, and this gives an opportunity for lovers of fishing vacation. The center also provides opportunities for treatmen and recovery. Lake mud is rich in important minerals with medicinal properties, a mineral water with a temperature of 25 degrees of Celsius.
